Unicycle Buying Guide
Unicycle Buying Guide

They said you couldn't do it, but now look at you, a pretty decent ventriloquist and juggler. To round out the triple threat of novelty acts, you just need to take the plunge and hop on a unicycle. It can't be that hard, right?

Of course, we're only kidding;, riding a unicycle isn't necessarily a novelty act. It's as good an exercise as any other, once you get good at it. And to boot, it hones your balance far more than most other activities. We do confess, though, that the act of unicycle riding is bound to put smiles on the faces of onlookers, making it something of a novelty. And what's wrong with that?

Mountain Unicycling

Mountain Unicycling

Not to be outdone by extreme cyclists bouncing over the rocky terrain of Arizona or speeding down wooded trails, unicyclists have recently gone off-road. The name, mountain unicycling, is shortened to MUni, perhaps to reduce inquiries of disbelief from others when they overhear talk about it. The practice has led to stronger, more rugged unicycles that can handle stress far better than standard unicycles.

You were hoping learning about unicycles was going to be easy, weren't you? After all, one less wheel, fewer mechanics, and, usually, considerably less money should equal fewer things to learn about. You're probably right, but you've still got your work cut out for you in learning about the kinds of unicycles out there and which might be best for you.

Giraffe Unicycles

Giraffe Unicycles

Unclear on what a giraffe unicycle is? You're probably not thinking hard enough. It is not a unicycle for giraffes; everybody knows only bears can be trained to ride unicycles. The giraffe unicycle is simply a unicycle with a longer than normal post. They are reserved for experienced and especially gutsy riders, for obvious reasons.

If you're among those motivated to unicycle we assume you are generally a spontaneous person. You make decisions on the spot, and while you may or may not stick with all of them, at least some are brought to fruition, which is better than those predictable squares can say. But, imagine the disappointment if, upon delivery, you were so spontaneous that you didn't consider the importance of size. To avoid, stay tuned and pay attention.
